This site provides an introduction to the Catholic parishes of Chester and District, part of the RC Diocese of Shrewsbury. From October 2007 the Diocese has been divided into six Regions and 26 Local Pastoral Areas (LPAs). The parishes of Chester and District form “Local Pastoral Area 11” within the “North Cheshire” Region.

A Deacon, elected by Deacons within the LPA;
A Catechist from within the LPA, nominated by the Bishop;
A Teacher from schools within the LPA, nominated by the Bishop.
Team members serve initially for three years, which is renewable once. The Team meets three times per year, once per term. It elects one priest and one lay person to be Co-Leaders for two years.
The Team is expected to:
Continually assess the pastoral needs of its Area;
Identify ways of furthering church mission in the Area;
Support the life of parishes in the Area;

The new framework affects previous arrangements in Chester and District in two ways:
The former Chester Pastoral Council (CPC) is replaced by the new Chester Pastoral Team.
The areas of Malpas, Farndon and Tattenhall, previously part of Chester and District, are now grouped with the parishes of Oswestry, Whitchurch and district (LPA2).
The new Pastoral Team held its first full meeting in January 2008, when it was agreed that “The Chester Catholic” would continue to be produced, to contain more information about the work of the Team and its sub-groups. In addition, the Chester Catholic website will be regularly updated.
